We are incredibly fortunate to have some of the best and brightest people with us on our mission to change work life. Instead of keeping their brilliance to ourselves, we’re launching a series of profiles so YOU, dear reader, can get to know some of the wonderful people that make Beyond20 tick.
Today, we’re featuring a shining star on our dynamic recruiting team, Ashlee Cowan. Ashlee balances a bubbly personality with a real eye for talent, and is thus the perfect person to identify the best potential Beyond20 candidates. Here’s what Ashlee has to say about her experience at Beyond20:
1. So, what would you say… you do here?
Here at Beyond20, I use different tools and tactics to source and hire top talent. We look for people who are awesome, easy to get along with, and have the skills required to complete the job.
2. How would you describe Beyond20’s company culture?
The company culture at Beyond20 is like no other. We do not falsely advertise our inclusive and diverse culture on social media for the purpose of attracting talent; We don’t have to do that because our bond as a group is organic. We have fun, we play around but we work even harder. Everyone is treated equally and is respectful of each other’s work and we all operate and complete tasks with a sense of urgency. There is no other company culture like Beyond20’s, hence, “we are small, but we are mighty” – and we are also pretty freaking awesome.
3. What is your team like?
I am on the Silver Team – when you think of the color silver you think of glitter, shine, and sparkle – and that is exactly what my team is. As one of the newest teams at B20, we are fast, fierce, and don’t stop until requisitions are filled. We are a passionate, dedicated, and caring team, as we know our work adds value to the company through the talent we hire and we care about each and every candidate we speak with.
4. What’s the most unique part about working here?
Though many of us have never met each other in person, we chat enough it’s as if we have all known each other for years. Though a lot of our team has worked together for years, it’s still great having the opportunity to connect with someone new in our virtual donut meetings!
5. How have you grown professionally while on our team?
I’ve grown a lot, especially considering this is my first position that is completely remote. It has been a major adjustment, but it has certainly been the most engaging position I have ever held. I am already a chatterbox, but now I have more professional experience communicating with strangers virtually and still building a formal and professional connection with them.
6. What drew you to Beyond20?
I could go on and on about this. First, my second interview was with our CEO; it was such an amazing and impactful experience as I feel she related to me since she was in my shoes earlier in her career. It has been difficult and challenging being young and a minority in corporate America. I felt like in my previous positions I was in a constant battle to be heard; not here. Additionally, to hear that this is a company led by women was so empowering to me, I was sold from the jump.
7. What advice do you have for prospective Beyond20 employees?
Come in with an open mind, do not limit yourself to your team, and jump at any opportunity that interests you. Be creative, and don’t be scared to share your thoughts with any of the teams.
8. What’s something everyone should watch?
Unfortunately, I am a trash TV addict and have fallen into the 90 Day Fiancé and Love is Blind movement. However, I enjoy historical documentaries as I have found that events circle back in different ways over the years. I am also a sucker for any love story and find myself still crying over The Notebook and Love & Basketball all these years later. Most recently I have found “A Journal for Jordan” is a favorite, and how can I forget – Meredith Grey – though I prefer to rewatch the earlier seasons.
