ITIL Foundations FAQs

Everything you always wanted to know...

Q: Does this course include the ITIL Foundations Exam?

A: Yes. The exam will be administered onsite on the final day of the course.

Q: Do I need a background in IT in order to take this course?

A: No.  Some familiarity with IT is helpful, but not required.  The instructor will explain the concepts in real world terms, not (just) technical terms.  In fact, many of our students are Project Managers who need to gain a "management level" understanding of IT without having a technical background.

Q: Can you deliver this course onsite for my company?

A: Yes.  Our award winning trainers can come to you and deliver this course onsite at your facility.  A number of onsite ITIL training options are available.  Contact us for a quote.

Q: What if I don't pass the exam?

A: We guarantee that all students will pass the exam - in fact, over 99% of our students pass on the first attempt.  However, should you need to retake the exam, we will assist you in preparation and set up the retake at no additional cost.  You can always attend the course again at no cost, although in most cases this isn't necessary. Q:  Can I talk to my instructor before the course?

A: Yes! We're always happy to help - just give us a call at (866) 856-3117

Q:  What is the difference between ITIL v3 and ITIL 2011?

A:  ITIL 2011 is the most current iteration of the ITIL core publications.  The ITIL books replaced ITIL v3, originallly published in 2007. For this reason, the two versions are sometimes referred to as "ITILv3:2007" and "ITIL v3:2011", respectively.  The ITIL 2011 books did not introduce any NEW content, but instead improved on the existing content (more consistency across the library, better examples, additional process flows and diagrams).  ITIL 2011 is the only version of the ITIL Foundations Exam that is currently available.

Q:  I have an ITIL v2 Foundations certification.  How do I update my certification to the current version?

A:  The ITIL v2 certifications expired at the end of 2010, so you would need to take the ITIL 2011 Foundations exam.

Q:  I have an ITIL v3 Foundations certification from the 2007 edition.  Do I need to update my certification to the current version?

A:  No.  ITIL v3 certifications from both the 2007 and 2011 editions are functionally the same, and do not need to be updated.

Q:  Is this course Accredited?

A:  Yes!  Beyond20 is an Accredited Training Organization through CSME, the only US based exam agency.  In addition, all of our instructors are accredited as Master ITIL Instructors through APMG International.  We are accredited to teach ALL levels of ITIL Training - Foundations, Intermediate (Capability and Lifecycle), and Expert.  We are also a Global Registered Education Provider (REP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Q:  Will I earn PDUs for ITIL Training?

A:  Yes.  Beyond20 is a global Registered Education Provider (Global REP).  The ITIL Foundations course provides 24 PDUs for those who are PMP certified.

Q:  What is the structure of the ITIL Foundations Exam?

A:  The ITIL Foundations Exam is 40 questions, multiple choice.  It is a closed book exam, and a passing score is 26/40, or 65%.   Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.

Q;  Do you use temporary workers or subcontractors to deliver your ITIL training courses?

A:  No.  All of our ITIL trainers are full time employees of Beyond20.  Our trainers are working consultants who implement ITIL processes and tools when they're not in the classroom - we practice what we preach.  It's a great system - we're better consultants because we know the ITIL library inside and out, and we're better trainers because we get to put the theory into practice in the real world.
